rising water
Bodies of water, like life, are in a constant state of flux. Even when they appear still, there is movement beneath the surface. They reflect, engulf, rise and fall just as naturally as we inhale and exhale. They mirror our moods—whether joyful, romantic or melancholic. In 2019, as the rain fell and Lake Sidney Lanier rose to a near record high, cases of the coronavirus were rising to pandemic level. As we began to isolate, I found myself in a melancholic mood—drawn to the lake where I could walk alone along the shifting shoreline and reflect on changing times.
